Balletcorps Policies

(The Basic Version)

program integrity

Students are expected to attend all their classes, on-time with proper hair and uniform, and most importantly, to enter the studio with a positive “ready to work!” energy!

Sometimes life happens, and students may be late or missing shoes etc. On these occasions, students are expected to observe class. So much can be learned from observing, sometimes more than taking the class!

Student eligibility & placement

BalletCorps will accept ANY student that willing to bring passion and focus to the studio! If a student wants to dance and train hard, then we have a spot for you! Student’s will be placed in a level based primarily upon their ability and work ethic, more so than age.

performances and casting

It is a goal of BalletCorps to provide lots of classical and contemporary performance opportunities for this community and surrounding area. Programs to offer choreographic opportunities for students will be developed over time. Fostering and growing creativity is a part of BalletCorps’s mission!

Everyone performs!

Performing is an essential part of a student’s progress. The following policies have been designed so as to smooth out what can typically interfere with a student’s participation.

junior company and senior company

For the purposes of subdividing rehearsal time blocks, students will fall into either the Junior A or B companies, or Senior A or B companies. Junior “A” company dancers will typically range from beginners to intermediate levels, with Junior “B” ranging from intermediate to beginning pointe dancers.

Senior “A” company dancers will typically be in their first or second year of pointe training, with Senior “B” being in their third plus year of pointe.

Dancers not en pointe will be placed on an individual basis.

The above level/company placement information is presented to serve as guidelines, and can vary by each individual student.

Production season vs. non-production season

The lead up time to a major production is typically 10 weeks. When we’re not in production season, the designated “rehearsal” day will simply be a class day. 75 minutes for the Junior Company, and 90 minutes for the Senior Company. Once production season starts, the time-blocks will be extended to roughly 2 hours for each company. The purpose behind this is to minimize the change to everyone’s schedule and to leave weekends free for rest and family.

no production fees

Production fees will not be a part of BalletCorps’s tuition structure, so as to better streamline everyone’s anticipated participation in performances.

no weekend rehearsals

Rehearsals will happen on a weekday during “production season”, so that weekends are free for family and rest. As the school develops, it’s anticipated that there will be a day of the week, likely Thursday or Friday where almost all levels of the school are already in attendance.

Attendance based casting

Roles for productions will be typically sub-divided into tiers, for example; leads, soloists, demi-soloists and corps de ballet. Each of these tiers will have a specific class attendance requirement per season. Dancers will be considered for roles first by their ability, and second by attendance. For example, if a student has the skills to do a lead role, but only has sufficient attendance to qualify for the corps de ballet, that student will perform in the corps de ballet. The purpose of this policy to is preserve, the production, program and artistic integrity of each student.
